Alright, I think I know this is an overkill. This setup definitely useful for corporate portraiture or some high end clients.
But, I got to try this tethered shooting on real time location portraiture. It’s pretty straightforward I would say. All I need is some confidence, Lightroom software, usb cable and lighting gears. Quite slow to review the image realtime using my aging laptop and furthermore, I shoot in RAW formats.
Here is what happen during tethered shooting
Shutter click —–> file generated in memory card—-> file copied to hard disk—->file import to lightroom—>image displayed in Lightroom
Everything was done automatically.
Anyway, behind the scene picture :
This a re-shoot event where some details are required to be seen on the first session. The setup quite costly but easier for the photographer where the client review the image real time and have their picture at the end of the session.
I normally would like to have the picture dead on target during the shooting. The lighting is very simple. I just need a clear and sharp picture aje
Some minor touch up, clearing few debris and dodge the background
I had the sunset shots here when he was 3 months old. This beach has a lot to offer on sunset view and it never failed any photographer. The swimsuit made the photograph look like an action sports photography.

here’s the behind the scene video that show how much fun we had. Datanglah sekali sini bah..
This photo from pre wedding session of Dyan & Idris. I got this one cool prop from my parents’ treasure room. During the old days, people use this gasoline lamp to light their way & home while electricity is unavailable. In the 80′s & 90′s we used this to check out the chicken den at night. Although the electricity is widely available, we found that this approach really practical. I was wondering why I can’t find any supply for kerosene to fuel this apparatus. I can just order them from the grocery and they will pump the gas from the big metal container. Instead looking for the supply in the groceries, I look for it in the hardware store. Yes, they got it but now it’s turpentine in a small bottle.
This shot is around 4:30 pm and under the shade of tress. I cannot get a complete blackout exposure to start with. I will try to lit the subject with the lamp and maintain the innocent look from early civilized century. That’s how I visualized my final image. Below picture is what I got straight from the camera and the lights is everywhere in this picture.
Hakikatnya, ia bukanlah gambar candid.
Gambar saya dibuang dan sedikit adjustment – exposure, color & skin smoothing. Final image saya crop jenang pintu sebelah kiri tu. Sekian.

Saja nak share this technique. Selalu terlupa nak pakai especially during the wedding. Kalau selalu practice takkan terlupa :). Lagipun saya nak compile some of the techniques here untuk buat reference di masa akan datang. Nota-nota dan coretan dalam buku tiga lima selalunya hilang bila kita nak carik dia.
Ini gambar pertama. Bagi saya gambar ni ‘fail’ sebab saya nak fokus kat budak tu (my sonlah tu) then, baru tengok benda yang lain.
Tapi saya malas nak pakai & malas nak edit. bayangkan kalau terpaksa photoshop beratus/ribu gambar. Behind the scene..
Sekian, terima kasih. Flagging the light with Bob the Builder.
