This is my continuation from my previous post here.

This is where the classic window portrait took place.  Making sure the white is not overexposed. A touch of flash on the left on TTL. There is a limitation on swivel angle for SB800 and I did this surgery to fix the issue.

The window is pretty large and one got to be very quick as the exposure keeps changing due to position & intensity  of the sun.

Here’s another sample using high ISO to mix the ambient light and flash. From this point onwards,  I’m confident shooting using ISO 1000 – ISO 2000.  That’s really an eye opener. As long as the exposure is correct on the subject, the photograph will be OK.

We did play with flash outdoor but this using the softbox and meter the scene with light meter. I really love the quality of light from this flash softbox.

Now here’s the classic look created by bouncing with half snoot black foam.  We want to achieve the short lighting for more pleasing look

A lot to digest but it helps me a lot to bend this craft.

When we got back from UK, we were surprised our neighbour just a got a new baby girl. Now they have a pair. Look at her chubbiness!

It was a great honor to learn from the master itself and author of this book (On Camera Flash Techniques).  His workshop made me realized the potential ‘power’ of understanding lighting & flash to make beautiful pictures. The small group of participants gave us enough chance to interact & work with him closely on those techniques.

I am now comfortable shooting with higher ISO and applying the the whole thought process whenever possible.

The talented model on that day (Noreen) was a big bonus for us. Here we apply using the video lights to create the hollywood spotlight mode to the photograph. I didn’t normally shoot at 1600 ISO but who really look at 100% magnification to enjoy a beautiful pic.(you’ll find the uncomfortable grainy noise instead) Thanks Neil.

Maybe I will share couple more pics taken during the workshop.  More to come.

Normally I would at least 3 or more shots for portraits headshots to be safe. On casual day snapshots I tend to lower the safety factor. The one and only shot for her on first day of Aidilfitri.
