There’s no specific rule or technique to capture your own family picture..especially the one with large family.
This picture is so special for me because everybody’s here for Eid Adha celebration. Sometimes we missed one or two family because they went their inlaw’s family. I hope 10 years from now one of the family members will throw comments here and the value of the pic appreciate.
Back to the technique..there’s no special effect or lighting gizmos used here. The results are just happy family where you can recognize the faces clearly..there’s no free style pose applied also..you know the peace sign, funny faces. because I want the picture to become a history in our memory.
1. Prepare and prepare, the picture just took 5 minutes to take but the setup took more than that.
2. Camera : any camera with high res & self timer
3. Tripod
4. Location : preferably under the shade with soft lighting coming from the front. People get cranky under the hot sun
5. Props : chair, bench, table to organize the sitting
6. Test shot. get this one right and you won’t look like an amateur fiddling the camera in front of everybody
7. Get the mood .Create excitement. Try to get 1/3 of the people excited about taking the group shot. The rest will follow. .some might not be interested but everybody is excited. why not
8. Pose..I learned the craft from one of the international wedding photographer here. Get them to sit, stand beside, to the side, body touch. create some dynamic so to speak. For my picture here…there’s room for improvement.
9. Remember to smile..a big one..hold on to it even though you had a diarrhea the night before due to lemang consumption. (there you go ..I got your smile there!)

10. Print big for everybody. They have no choice but to buy..:)
